Your profile
You should have experience of working in online planning and buying in an agency, or come from an offline direct response background in order to be considered for this role. Ideally you will already be a manager wanting to take your career to the next level on one of the agency's flag ship accounts, or an exceptional senior planner. Your background should be majority digitally focused however a cross-media background with a digital bias would be considered. You should have an excellent understanding of how online enhances and supports offline media. You should also understand how new trends within the online environment impact on the various accounts and where the audiences reside. E.g. how can we incorporate social networking and blogging within the clients' strategies and should we be considering this? You should be numerate, be able to demonstrate the ability to think creatively, and have excellent organisational skills. You should also demonstrate an understanding of interpreting research, i.e. competitor information and research regarding target audiences and how this fits within the role of online. In addition to this you must also be a competent client servicer, as well as having team management experience and you should be adept at presenting.
The Role
The Digital Account Manager will be working on a retail and travel client portfolio and there will be an element of both branding and direct response activity within these accounts. The clients are innovative and are increasing their digital spend all the time. You will be working to deliver schedules on brief and on budget and recommend, justify and implement the role of online micro-disciplines within the planning process such as search, networks, emails, affiliates and display. Accountability is extremely important so the digital account manager will need to understand how to analyse and optimise the campaigns according to results achieved, and also the clients' objectives. Team mentoring, development and managing workflows are crucial to this position.
