The Director, Asia Pacific Public Affairs and Government Communications is part of a team involved in some of the most complex and high-profile assignments in Burson-Marsteller Asia Pacific. This is an opportunity to be involved in ground-breaking communications assignments to clients based in Hong Kong, Mainland China, regionally and internationally.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Asia Pacific Public Affairs and Government Communications Practice, you will develop and shape communication strategies for regional issues and crisis management, be a client relationship manager and a media relations strategist. This role is for somebody who has a thorough grasp of client service management, including corporate positioning, issues and crisis management, and media relations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage senior and complex client relationships while dealing with breaking issues;
  • Using your relevant experience and skills, you will lead a team comprised of Managers, Senior Associates, Associates and Client Executives involved in all aspects of client support, including strategy development, research, materials development, media relations, and event planning and management;
  • Work on and manage clients including on-going retainer relationships as well as crisis assignments;
  • Support, and in some cases lead, the team’s new business development efforts;

Prerequisites, Capabilities and Experience:

  • Conversant in  Mandarin, in addition to fluency in English, and ability to read Chinese;
  • 8-10 years of experience in media relations, international communications and issues/crisis management;  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills ;
  • Able to think ahead in order to establish an effective and appropriate course of action for self and others. Prioritises and plans activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines and resources requirements;
  • Ability to work well as part of a team of communications professionals and to lead a team independently;
